Chapter I: General provisions.

This Title governs any insurance contract whose purpose is to cover: 1° Maritime risks; 2° Air or aviation risks; 3° Risks relating to civil liability in connection with space operations; 4° Risks relating to the transport of goods by sea, air or land. River and lake insurance contracts are governed by the provisions of this Title, with the exception of Articles L. 172-5, L. 172-11, L. 172-17, L. 172-26, L….

The parties to the contract may not depart from the provisions of articles L. 171-3, L. 172-2, L. 172-3, L. 172-6, L. 172-8, L. 172-9, L. 172-13 (second paragraph), L. 172-17, L. 172-20, L. 172-22, L. 172-28, L. 172-31, L. 173-22-1, L. 175-7, L. 175-8, L. 175-9, L. 175-12, L. 175-13, L. 175-14 (first, second, fourth and fifth paragraphs), L. 175-15, L. 175-16 (second and third paragraphs), L. 175-19, L….

Any legitimate interest, including expected profit, may be the subject of insurance. No person may claim the benefit of insurance unless he has suffered loss.

The insurance may be taken out either on behalf of the policyholder, or on behalf of another specified person, or on behalf of whom it may concern. The declaration that the insurance is taken out on behalf of whomsoever is valid both as insurance for the benefit of the policyholder and as a stipulation pour autrui for the benefit of the beneficiary of the said clause.

This Title does not apply to insurance contracts intended to cover risks relating to pleasure boating. Such contracts are subject to the provisions of Titles I, II and III of this Book.
