Paragraph 5: Technical and safety guarantees

An airlock is a device allowing access from a covered facility to an open-air pool without having to get out of the water. The water depth of the pool into which the lock opens is displayed in a place visible to users, at the entrance to the lock.

The edges and, where appropriate, the walls of the pools are designed to allow swimmers to lean on them.

The design of devices that allow pools to be modified, such as movable floors, docks and walls, or any submerged device, does not present a danger to bathers in any position.

The movable floors are either designed so that their connection to the pool floor respects the slope provided for pools, or are fitted with a device to remedy the danger created at their periphery by the sudden change in depth. These provisions apply to slides in which the user slides on a film of water generated for this purpose. They comply with any national transposition of standard NF EN 1069, parts 1 and 2.

Water slides with a height of less than 2 metres are designed to prevent users from injuring themselves and to ensure that they stay on the slide route provided by the manufacturer.

Access to the slide includes a waiting area and an access staircase. The waiting area is designed to ensure a smooth flow of users and avoid jostling. Diving boards are run-up and take-off areas for diving. They include: – springboards measuring 1 and 3 metres; – platforms measuring 1, 3, 5, 7, 50 and 10 metres. The overhead and underwater safety gauges, the minimum distances between diving boards and the side edges of the pools and the other technical provisions are specified in Annex III-11 to this code.

When a device is used to artificially generate waves, an orange flag is hoisted before and during wave production, indicating that diving is prohibited.
