Chapter IV: Provisions relating to certain establishments

The approval referred to in article L. 414-1 is issued by the prefect of the department, to establishments treating food likely to be intended for human or animal consumption by ionisation, which meet the conditions mentioned in this chapter.

The approval gives rise to the issue of an identification number for the installation corresponding to the model defined by order of the ministers responsible for consumption, agriculture and industry.This approval may be suspended or withdrawn by the prefect, once the installation or the conditions for monitoring and controlling the process no longer comply with the provisions of this chapter.

Establishments have handling and storage areas to ensure the separation of treated and untreated foodstuffs and equipment to maintain foodstuffs at an appropriate temperature, where necessary. .

The establishments mentioned in article L. 414-1 which treat foodstuffs by ionisation are authorised by decree in the Conseil d’Etat.

The establishments mentioned in article L. 414-1 have staff with the required skills. They designate a person responsible for ensuring compliance with all the conditions required for the application of the ionisation process.

The conditions necessary for the application of the process mentioned in article R. 414-5 are as follows: 1° Before irradiating a certain category of foodstuffs, determination of the dose distribution curves and the positions of the minimum and maximum doses; 2° During irradiation, routine dosimetric measurements on each batch so as to ensure that the dose limits are not exceeded; 3° Continuous monitoring and recording of the process parameters, as…
