Section 5: Rights guaranteed to foreign nationals during legal proceedings

The foreign national may ask the liberties and detention judge to appoint an ex officio counsel. The judge will inform the foreign national of the possibilities and deadlines for appealing against all decisions concerning him or her.

During the period in which he is held at the disposal of the courts, under the conditions laid down in article L. 742-2, the foreign national is given the opportunity, if he so wishes, to contact his lawyer and a third party, to meet a doctor and to eat.
