Subsection 2: Retired foreign nationals

A foreign national who is the holder of a contributory old-age pension, under his or her own right or a derived right, paid under a French basic social security scheme and who, after having resided in France under a residence permit, has established or is establishing his or her habitual residence outside France will, at his or her request, be issued with a residence permit bearing the wording “retired person”…

The spouse of a holder of a residence permit marked “retired”, who has resided legally in France with the holder, will benefit from a residence permit conferring the same rights.

A foreign national who is the holder of a residence permit bearing the wording “retired”, as provided for in article L. 426-8, and who can prove that he or she wishes to settle in France and reside there on a principal basis, will be issued with a ten-year residence permit, subject to regularity of residence.
