Section 4: Rights guaranteed to foreign nationals during legal proceedings

The foreign national may ask the liberties and detention judge to appoint counsel ex officio.The unaccompanied minor is assisted by a lawyer chosen by the ad hoc administrator or, failing that, appointed ex officio.

The foreign national may ask the liberties and detention judge for the assistance of an interpreter and for his or her file to be communicated. During the period in which he is held at the disposal of the courts, under the conditions set out in article L. 342-3, foreign nationals are given the opportunity, if they so wish, to contact their lawyer and a third party, to see a doctor and to eat.
