Section 2: Integration contract

The foreign national referred to in the first paragraph of article L. 413-2 commits to a personalised republican integration programme. To this end, they sign the republican integration contract provided for in the second paragraph of the same article, by which they undertake to respect the principles and values of French society and the Republic and to follow seriously and assiduously the training and support measures prescribed for them.

The Republican Integration Contract, together with a translation into a language that the person concerned understands, is presented to the foreign national by the French Immigration and Integration Office during a personalised interview. The republican integration contract is concluded for a period of one year.This contract is respected as long as the training courses it provides for have been followed assiduously and seriously and the foreign national has not shown any rejection of the essential values of French society and the Republic. For the application of the last paragraph of article L. 413-5 if the foreign national has completed his or her education in a French secondary school abroad the latter must be on the list provided for by article R. 451-2 of the Education Code and the interested party must present a certificate drawn up by the head of the school.

Aforeign nationals who have not signed up to this scheme when they are first admitted for residence may sign the Republican Integration Contract at a later date, as provided for in article L. 413-4, provided that they are legally resident in France and subject to the exceptions provided for in article R. 413-7. Where applicable, the contract is also signed by the foreign national’s legal representative.
