Article 1220-3 of the French Code of civil procedure

The guardianship judge may only rule on a petition concerning a protected adult of full age and relating to the protection of his person after having heard or called the latter unless the hearing is likely to harm the health of the person concerned or if the latter is incapable of expressing his wishes.

Le juge des tutelles ne peut statuer sur une requête concernant un majeur protégé et relative à la protection de sa personne qu’après avoir entendu ou appelé celui-ci sauf si l’audition est de nature à porter atteinte à la santé de l’intéressé ou si celui-ci est hors d’état d’exprimer sa volonté.
