Article 1303-3 of the French Code of civil procedure

Where the marriage record is kept by a French authority, the change of matrimonial property regime obtained in application of the foreign law governing the effects of the union is mentioned in the margin of this record.

In the absence of a marriage record kept by a French authority, this change of matrimonial property regime, if it has given rise to a decision of a French court or to a deed drawn up in France in authentic form or if one of the spouses is French, is entered for preservation in the annexed civil register referred to in Article 4-1 of Decree No 65-422 of 1 June 1965 creating a central civil status service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lorsque l’acte de mariage est conservé par une autorité française, le changement de régime matrimonial obtenu en application de la loi étrangère régissant les effets de l’union est mentionné en marge de cet acte.

En l’absence d’acte de mariage conservé par une autorité française, ce changement de régime matrimonial, s’il a donné lieu à une décision d’un tribunal français ou à un acte établi en France en la forme authentique ou si l’un des époux est français, est inscrit aux fins de conservation au répertoire civil annexe mentionné à l’article 4-1 du décret n° 65-422 du 1er juin 1965 portant création d’un service central d’état civil au ministère des affaires étrangères.
