Article 28 of the French Customs Code

The type of goods is the designation assigned to them by the Common Customs Tariff.

Decrees issued by the Minister for the Economy and Finance may prescribe the use of the coding elements of the nomenclature for customs clearance of products to declare the type of goods. This nomenclature is published by order of the Minister for the Economy and Finance.

L’espèce des marchandises est la dénomination qui leur est attribuée par le tarif douanier commun.

Des arrêtés du ministre de l’économie et des finances peuvent prescrire, pour la déclaration de l’espèce tarifaire des marchandises, l’utilisation des éléments de codification de la nomenclature de dédouanement des produits. Cette nomenclature fait l’objet d’une publication par arrêté du ministre de l’économie et des finances.
