Article 366 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The Assize Court then returns to the courtroom. The president calls the accused to appear, reads out the answers made to the questions, and pronounces the judgment of conviction, absolution or acquittal.

The texts of the law to which application is made are read out at the hearing by the president; mention of this reading is made in the judgment.

The reading of the texts of the law and the answers made to the questions is not obligatory if the accused or his defence counsel waives it.

La cour d’assises rentre ensuite dans la salle d’audience. Le président fait comparaître l’accusé, donne lecture des réponses faites aux questions, et prononce l’arrêt portant condamnation, absolution ou acquittement.

Les textes de loi dont il est fait application sont lus à l’audience par le président ; il est fait mention de cette lecture dans l’arrêt.

La lecture des textes de loi et des réponses faites aux questions n’est pas obligatoire si l’accusé ou son défenseur y renonce.
