Article 812-6 of the French Civil Code

The agent may only renounce continuing to execute the mandate after notifying his decision to the heirs concerned or their representatives.

Unless otherwise agreed between the agent and the heirs concerned or their representatives, renunciation takes effect at the end of a period of three months from the notification.

Without prejudice to damages, the agent remunerated by a capital sum may be required to return all or part of the sums received.

Le mandataire ne peut renoncer à poursuivre l’exécution du mandat qu’après avoir notifié sa décision aux héritiers intéressés ou à leurs représentants.

Sauf convention contraire entre le mandataire et les héritiers intéressés ou leurs représentants, la renonciation prend effet à l’issue d’un délai de trois mois à compter de la notification.

Sans préjudice de dommages et intérêts, le mandataire rémunéré par un capital peut être tenu de restituer tout ou partie des sommes perçues.
