Article 839 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

For the application of Article 407, the court clerk may be appointed as interpreter for one of the languages in use in the territory. In this case, he is exempt from the oath.

If there is a permanent official interpreter, he shall not take the oath until he takes up his duties.

Pour l’application de l’article 407, le greffier peut être désigné comme interprète pour l’une des langues en usage dans le territoire. Il est, dans ce cas, dispensé du serment.

S’il existe un interprète officiel permanent, celui-ci ne prête serment qu’à l’occasion de son entrée en fonctions.
