In each establishment, the operator shall appoint a qualified technical supervisor responsible for ensuring that instruction takes place in accordance with the conditions laid down in this sub-section. Several qualified technical supervisors may be appointed, each responsible for the technical aspects of some of the nautical activities taught.
For instruction in light pleasure craft, supervision takes place from or near a boat suitable for teaching and immediate intervention, with the exception of water sports activities such as funboarding, which require a special intervention system.
Paid supervisory staff in these establishments hold a qualification in accordance with article L. 212-1.
Volunteer supervisory staff in establishments belonging to a federation or a national body approved in application of article R. 131-3 hold a qualification defined by this body for the activity concerned.
In other establishments, the operator determines and verifies under his own responsibility the levels of qualification or skills required according to the activity offered.
The maximum number of boats or sailboards per teacher is defined by the technical manager according to the level of the participants, the characteristics of the activity taught, the teacher’s skills, the topographical, climatic and weather conditions, the boats used and the surveillance and intervention system. In all cases, this number may not exceed 15 boats per teacher. If there are more than 3 children under the age of 12 in a group, the maximum number of boats per teacher is 10. If there are more than 3 children under the age of eight in a group, the maximum number of boats per teacher is 7.
