Article D18 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The investigating judge who orders the investigations and examinations referred to in Article D. 16, sets the deadline by which reports must be sent to it.

In the event of unjustified delays, the designated person may be replaced and the Attorney General and the President of the Examining Magistrate’s Chamber shall be notified for all legal purposes.

Le juge d’instruction qui ordonne les enquêtes et examens visés à l’article D. 16, fixe le délai dans lequel les rapports doivent lui être adressés.

En cas de retards injustifiés, la personne désignée peut être remplacée et il en est donné avis aux fins de droit au procureur général et au président de la chambre d’instruction.
