Within the jurisdiction of each court of appeal, judicial police officers are equal before the law in prerogative and responsibility; they are placed under the supervision of the public prosecutor and under the control of the investigating chamber.
Within the jurisdiction of each court, the court, the public prosecutor and his deputies alone have the authority to direct the activities of the officers and agents of the judicial police, through, where applicable, their hierarchical superiors, subject to the provisions of article D. 15-4.
The public prosecutor and the investigating judge are free to choose the formations to which the territorially competent judicial police officers belong who will be responsible for executing their requisitions or letters rogatory.
The head of the unit coordinates the execution of the judicial police operations carried out in his department and ensures that reports are forwarded to the judicial authorities.
