Article D49-39 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

An appeal against the orders and judgments of the enforcement judge or court shall be lodged either with the registry of the enforcement judge in accordance with the procedures set out in the first two paragraphs of article 502, or in accordance with the procedures set out in l’article 503.

The 24-hour time limit for appeal provided for in 1° of Article 712-11 expires at midnight on the day after the order was served. Where the order is served by registered letter, this period expires at midnight on the day following the day on which the acknowledgement of receipt is signed; in the absence of signature, this period begins to run fifteen days after the letter is sent.

L’appel des ordonnances et jugements du juge ou du tribunal de l’application des peines est formé soit au greffe du juge de l’application des peines selon les modalités prévues aux deux premiers alinéas de l’article 502, soit selon les modalités prévues à l’article 503.

Le délai d’appel de 24 heures prévu par le 1° de l’article 712-11 expire à minuit, le lendemain du jour où l’ordonnance a été notifiée. Lorsque l’ordonnance est notifiée par lettre recommandée, ce délai expire à minuit le lendemain du jour de la signature de l’avis de réception ; à défaut de signature, ce délai commence à courir quinze jours après l’envoi de la lettre.
