Article D56 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

In addition to the measures of isolation or separation from other detainees that he or she may order in accordance with the provisions of Articles D. 56-1 and D. 56-2, the magistrate responsible for the information file has the right to prescribe a temporary ban on communication by virtue of Article 145-4.

Under no circumstances does the ban on communication apply to counsel for the person under investigation, but it does prevent the detainee it concerns from being visited by or corresponding with any other person outside the prison administration.

Article D56

Indépendamment des mesures d’isolement ou de séparation d’autres détenus qu’il peut ordonner conformément aux dispositions des articles D. 56-1 et D. 56-2, le magistrat saisi du dossier de l’information a le droit de prescrire une interdiction temporaire de communiquer en vertu de l’article 145-4.

En aucun cas, l’interdiction de communiquer ne s’applique au conseil de la personne mise en examen, mais elle s’oppose à ce que le détenu qu’elle concerne soit visité par toute autre personne étrangère à l’administration pénitentiaire ou corresponde avec elle.
