Doctors working in an emergency medicine unit must hold a diploma of complementary specialised studies in emergency medicine or be hospital practitioners in multi-purpose emergency medicine.
Doctors who hold a diploma attesting to university training in emergency medicine or doctors with professional experience equivalent to at least three years in an emergency medicine department or facility may also work in an emergency medicine facility.
Other doctors may also carry out their duties within this structure, provided that they undertake university training in emergency medicine at the same time. This latter condition is not required of teaching and hospital staff involved in emergency medicine teaching.
In addition, any doctor may participate in the continuity of care of the emergency medicine structure after registration on the duty roster validated by the head or co-ordinator of the structure.
Specific provisions, specified in article D. 6124-26-3, are applicable to the paediatric emergency structures mentioned in 3° of article R. 6123-1.
