The outpatient surgery unit is staffed by a medical and paramedical team which may include staff who also work as full-time inpatients on the same site.
However, members of the team who do not work primarily in the operating sector are assigned to the outpatient surgery unit only for the duration of their treatment.
The number and qualifications of the medical staff, auxiliary medical staff and nursing assistants are adapted to the patients’ health needs, the nature and volume of activity carried out and the technical characteristics of the care provided.
For the duration of treatment in an ambulatory surgery unit, the following are required:
1° The permanent presence of at least one state-qualified nurse in the unit;
2° The presence, on the holder’s site, of a doctor specialising in anaesthesia-intensive care who is able to intervene in the interventional sector within a timeframe compatible with the safety of treatment, as well as a number of state-qualified nurses adapted to the activity for the duration of use of the interventional sector;
3° The presence, on the holder’s site, of a doctor specialising in anaesthesia-intensive care and a doctor specialising in surgery able to intervene within a timeframe compatible with the safety of care in the ambulatory surgery unit, in the event of anaesthetic or surgical complications.
