The medical dialysis unit operates with the assistance of a team of nephrologists, each of whom is qualified or competent in nephrology. This team may be shared with that of a haemodialysis centre; depending on the patient’s medical needs, it provides a visit from a nephrologist one to three times a week, during the session either on site or remotely under the conditions set out in articles R. 6316-1 to R. 6316-6, as well as a consultation with a full medical examination in a consultation room, at least once a month.
The team of nephrologists is always sufficiently large for a nephrologist to be able to intervene without usually being present during the session, either on site or remotely under the conditions provided for in articles R. 6316-1 to R. 6316-6, within a timeframe compatible with safety requirements.
When the nephrologist intervenes remotely, an intensive care anaesthetist or an emergency doctor must be able to intervene on site within a timeframe compatible with safety requirements.
One of the members of the nephrologist team is on call outside dialysis unit operating hours. This on-call duty may also be carried out under the conditions provided for in article D. 6124-69.
