The healthcare establishment has a healthcare team, which may be shared with that of the peritoneal dialysis training and monitoring unit. This team includes nurses who must be trained in peritoneal dialysis. Members of the healthcare team may visit patients at home.
Any healthcare establishment that provides all the services for the care of peritoneal dialysis patients, as mentioned in article R. 6123-67, has one full-time nurse for every ten patients. When the establishment does not provide some of these services, it has one full-time nurse for every twenty patients.
A nurse trained in peritoneal dialysis is on call 24 hours a day to respond to any medical emergencies for patients treated by peritoneal dialysis. This on-call duty can be carried out by a nurse present in a nephrology department or intensive care unit practising peritoneal dialysis.
