Article D821-1 of the French Consumer Code

The National Consumer Council is a consultative body reporting to the Minister responsible for consumer affairs.

Its purpose is to enable debate and consultation between the public authorities, representatives of consumer defence associations and representatives of professional organisations as well as companies carrying out public service missions, on all matters relating to consumer problems.

It also has the task of enabling the appointment of mediators covered by the provisions of article L. 613-2.

Le Conseil national de la consommation est un organisme consultatif placé auprès du ministre chargé de la consommation.

Il a pour objet de permettre le débat et la concertation entre les pouvoirs publics, les représentants des associations de défense des consommateurs et les représentants des organisations professionnelles ainsi que des entreprises assurant des missions de service public, pour tout ce qui a trait aux problèmes de la consommation.

Il a également pour mission de permettre la désignation des médiateurs relevant des dispositions de l’article L. 613-2.
