Article L131-3 of the French Sports Code

Sports federations bring together sports associations.

They may bring together as members, under the conditions laid down in their articles of association:

1° Individuals to whom they issue licences directly;

2° Profit-making organisations whose purpose is the practice of one or more of their disciplines and which they authorise to issue licences;

3° Organisations whose purpose is not the practice of one or more of their disciplines but which contribute to the development of one or more of these disciplines;

4° Sports associations.

Les fédérations sportives regroupent des associations sportives.

Elles peuvent regrouper en qualité de membres, dans des conditions prévues par leurs statuts :

1° Les personnes physiques auxquelles elles délivrent directement des licences ;

2° Les organismes à but lucratif dont l’objet est la pratique d’une ou de plusieurs de leurs disciplines et qu’elles autorisent à délivrer des licences ;

3° Les organismes qui, sans avoir pour objet la pratique d’une ou de plusieurs de leurs disciplines, contribuent au développement d’une ou de plusieurs de celles-ci ;

4° Les sociétés sportives.
