Article L1424-18 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

At its request, the commune or public establishment for inter-communal cooperation or the department may be given responsibility by the departmental or territorial fire and rescue service for a major repair, extension, reconstruction or equipment operation for a fire and rescue centre existing at the date of the provision. This operation must have been the subject of a prior financing decision by the commune, the public establishment for inter-communal cooperation or the département.

Sur sa demande, la commune ou l’établissement public de coopération intercommunale ou le département peut se voir confier, par le service départemental ou territorial d’incendie et de secours, la responsabilité d’une opération de grosses réparations, d’extension, de reconstruction ou d’équipement d’un centre d’incendie et de secours existant à la date de la mise à disposition. Cette opération doit avoir fait l’objet d’une décision préalable de financement de la commune, de l’établissement public de coopération intercommunale ou du département.
