Article L1424-51 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Many departmental fire and rescue services may decide, by concordant deliberations of their boards of directors, to create an interdepartmental public fire and rescue establishment.

The creation of the interdepartmental public fire and rescue establishment is the subject of an order by the State representative in the department where the establishment is to have its head office. This decree is issued after consultation with the representative of the State in the other departments concerned and the president of the departmental council in each department.

Plusieurs services départementaux d’incendie et de secours peuvent décider, par délibérations concordantes de leur conseil d’administration, de créer un établissement public interdépartemental d’incendie et de secours.

La création de l’établissement public interdépartemental d’incendie et de secours fait l’objet d’un arrêté du représentant de l’Etat dans le département où l’établissement doit avoir son siège. Cet arrêté est pris après avis du représentant de l’Etat dans les autres départements intéressés et du président du conseil départemental de chaque département.
