Article L163-1 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

It is punishable by a fine of 6,000 euros for the drawee to refuse payment of a cheque, except in the cases mentioned in the second paragraph of article L. 131-35, on the grounds that the drawer has made a stop payment.

Est puni d’une amende de 6 000 euros le fait, pour le tiré, de refuser le paiement d’un chèque hors les cas mentionnés au deuxième alinéa de l’article L. 131-35, au motif que le tireur y a fait opposition.
