Article L191-6 of the French Insurance Code

Each party has the right to terminate the contract, after the loss has occurred, within one month of the conclusion of negotiations concerning compensation.

The insurer must give one month’s notice. It must return to the insured the portion of the premium paid in advance and relating to the period for which the risk did not arise, calculated from the effective date of cancellation.

Chaque partie a le droit de résilier le contrat, après la réalisation du sinistre, dans le délai d’un mois qui suit la conclusion des négociations relatives à l’indemnité.

L’assureur doit donner un préavis d’un mois. Il doit restituer à l’assuré la portion de prime payée d’avance et afférente à la période pour laquelle le risque n’a pas couru, période calculée à compter de la date d’effet de la résiliation.
