Article L212-7 of the French Cinema and Moving Image Code

The following projects are subject to authorisation:

1° The creation of a multiple-screen cinema with more than 300 seats, resulting either from a new building or the conversion of an existing building;

2° The extension of a multiple-screen cinema which has already reached the 300-seat threshold or which is expected to exceed this threshold through the implementation of the project, with the exception of extensions representing less than 30% of the existing seats and taking place more than five years after the start of operations or the last extension;

3° The extension of a multiple-screen cinema that has already reached the 1,500-seat threshold or will exceed it when the project is completed;

3° bis The extension of a cinema that already has at least eight screens or will exceed this threshold when the project is completed;

4° The reopening to the public, on the same site, of a cinema with several screens and more than 300 seats, the premises of which have ceased to operate for two consecutive years.

Article L212-7

Sont soumis à autorisation les projets ayant pour objet :

1° La création d’un établissement de spectacles cinématographiques comportant plusieurs salles et plus de 300 places et résultant soit d’une construction nouvelle, soit de la transformation d’un immeuble existant ;

2° L’extension d’un établissement de spectacles cinématographiques comportant plusieurs salles et ayant déjà atteint le seuil de 300 places ou devant le dépasser par la réalisation du projet, à l’exception des extensions représentant moins de 30 % des places existantes et s’effectuant plus de cinq ans après la mise en exploitation ou la dernière extension ;

3° L’extension d’un établissement de spectacles cinématographiques comportant plusieurs salles et ayant déjà atteint le seuil de 1 500 places ou devant le dépasser par la réalisation du projet ;

3° bis L’extension d’un établissement de spectacles cinématographiques comportant déjà huit salles au moins ou devant dépasser ce seuil par la réalisation du projet ;

4° La réouverture au public, sur le même emplacement, d’un établissement de spectacles cinématographiques comportant plusieurs salles et plus de 300 places et dont les locaux ont cessé d’être exploités pendant deux années consécutives.
