Article L2512-17 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The Prefect of Police is responsible for fire rescue and defence.

He retains the powers he exercises by virtue of the special law on the subject.

As such, the Paris Fire Brigade is the territorially competent fire and rescue service responsible for the missions mentioned in Article L. 1424-2.

Placed for employment under the authority of the Paris Police Prefect, the missions and organisation of the Paris Fire Brigade are set by decree in the Conseil d’Etat.

Le préfet de police est chargé du secours et de la défense contre l’incendie.

Il conserve les pouvoirs qu’il exerce en vertu de la loi spéciale de la matière.

A ce titre, la brigade de sapeurs-pompiers de Paris est le service d’incendie et de secours territorialement compétent chargé des missions mentionnées à l’article L. 1424-2.

Placée pour emploi sous l’autorité du préfet de police de Paris, les missions et l’organisation de la brigade de sapeurs-pompiers de Paris sont fixées par décret en Conseil d’Etat.
