Article L433-6 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

A foreign national applying for the issue of a temporary or multi-annual residence permit on a basis other than that for which he/she was issued with the residence permit or long-stay visa referred to in 2° of article L. 411-1, will be issued with the permit applied for when the conditions for issue, corresponding to the reason for residence invoked, are met, without the condition provided for in article L. 412-1.
When the foreign national applies for the issue of a first multi-annual residence permit under the conditions set out in this article, he/she must also provide proof of compliance with the conditions set out in 1° of article L. 433-4.
This article does not apply to the residence permits set out in articles L. 421-2 and L. 421-6.

L’étranger qui sollicite la délivrance d’une carte de séjour temporaire ou pluriannuelle sur un autre fondement que celui au titre duquel lui a été délivré la carte de séjour ou le visa de long séjour mentionné au 2° de l’article L. 411-1, se voit délivrer le titre demandé lorsque les conditions de délivrance, correspondant au motif de séjour invoqué, sont remplies, sans que soit opposable la condition prévue à l’article L. 412-1.
Lorsque l’étranger sollicite la délivrance d’une première carte de séjour pluriannuelle dans les conditions prévues au présent article, il doit en outre justifier du respect des conditions prévues au 1° de l’article L. 433-4.
Le présent article ne s’applique pas aux titres de séjour prévus aux articles L. 421-2 et L. 421-6.
