Article L542-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

In the absence of an appeal against the decision of the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons within the time limit laid down in Article L. 532-1, the right to remain on French territory ends on notification of this decision.
Where an appeal against the Office’s decision to reject the application has been lodged within the time limit laid down in Article L. 532-1, the applicant’s right to remain on French territory ends on the date on which the decision of the Cour nationale du droit d’asile is read out in open court or, if it is decided by order, on the date on which it is notified.

En l’absence de recours contre la décision de l’Office français de protection des réfugiés et apatrides dans le délai prévu à l’article L. 532-1, le droit de se maintenir sur le territoire français prend fin à la notification de cette décision.
Lorsqu’un recours contre la décision de rejet de l’office a été formé dans le délai prévu à l’article L. 532-1, le droit du demandeur de se maintenir sur le territoire français prend fin à la date de la lecture en audience publique de la décision de la Cour nationale du droit d’asile ou, s’il est statué par ordonnance, à la date de la notification de celle-ci.
