Article L542-4 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

A foreign national who has been definitively refused refugee status or subsidiary protection or who no longer benefits from the right to remain on French territory pursuant to article L. 542-2 and who cannot be authorised to remain on French territory on another basis must leave French territory, failing which he or she will be subject to a decision imposing an obligation to leave French territory.

L’étranger auquel la reconnaissance de la qualité de réfugié ou le bénéfice de la protection subsidiaire a été définitivement refusé ou qui ne bénéficie plus du droit de se maintenir sur le territoire français en application de l’article L. 542-2 et qui ne peut être autorisé à demeurer sur le territoire à un autre titre doit quitter le territoire français, sous peine de faire l’objet d’une décision portant obligation de quitter le territoire français.
