Article L6211-1 of the French Public Health Code

A medical biology examination is a medical procedure which contributes to the prevention, screening, diagnosis or assessment of the risk of the occurrence of pathological conditions, to therapeutic decision-making and management, or to the determination or monitoring of the physiological or pathophysiological state of the human being, with the exception of pathological anatomy and cytology procedures performed by doctors specialising in this field.

By way of derogation from the first paragraph, cervico-vaginal sampling carried out as part of cervical cancer screening may be performed by a pharmacist-biologist.

Un examen de biologie médicale est un acte médical qui concourt à la prévention, au dépistage, au diagnostic ou à l’évaluation du risque de survenue d’états pathologiques, à la décision et à la prise en charge thérapeutiques, à la détermination ou au suivi de l’état physiologique ou physiopathologique de l’être humain, hormis les actes d’anatomie et de cytologie pathologiques, exécutés par des médecins spécialistes dans ce domaine.

Par dérogation au premier alinéa, le prélèvement cervico-vaginal réalisé dans le cadre du dépistage du cancer du col de l’utérus peut être pratiqué par un pharmacien biologiste.
