Only health establishments may be authorised, in accordance with Chapter II of Title II of Book I of this Part, to have one or more units participating in the emergency medical assistance service, the tasks and organisation of which are laid down by regulation.
These units participate in the healthcare access service mentioned in article L. 6311-3.
A call reception and regulation centre is set up in the emergency medical services. This centre may be shared by several emergency medical services. It is organised with the healthcare professionals in the area working in the outpatient sector and in healthcare establishments involved in the organisation and operation of the healthcare access service referred to in article L. 6311-3.
The operation of these units and centres is ensured, under conditions set by decree, with the assistance of private practitioners.
While respecting medical confidentiality, call reception and regulation centres are interconnected with police and fire and rescue service systems.
The emergency medical assistance services and the services contributing to emergency medical assistance are obliged to ensure that patients are transported as close as possible to establishments offering available resources appropriate to their condition, subject to respect for freedom of choice.
