Article L7111-3 of the French Labour Code

A professional journalist is any person whose main, regular and remunerated activity is the exercise of his profession in one or more press companies, daily and periodical publications or press agencies and who derives the main part of his resources from this.

A correspondent, whether working in France or abroad, is a professional journalist if he or she receives fixed remuneration and meets the conditions set out in the first paragraph.

Est journaliste professionnel toute personne qui a pour activité principale, régulière et rétribuée, l’exercice de sa profession dans une ou plusieurs entreprises de presse, publications quotidiennes et périodiques ou agences de presse et qui en tire le principal de ses ressources.

Le correspondant, qu’il travaille sur le territoire français ou à l’étranger, est un journaliste professionnel s’il perçoit des rémunérations fixes et remplit les conditions prévues au premier alinéa.
