The Assembly of Martinique elects its president at the meeting of right following each renewal.
For this election, it is presided over by its oldest member, the youngest member acting as secretary. This election does not give rise to any debate.
The Martinique Assembly can only deliberate in this case if two thirds of its members are present. If this condition is not met, the meeting is held automatically three days later. The President is elected by an absolute majority of members for the duration of the term of office of the councillors of the Martinique Assembly. If this election is not obtained after the first two ballots, a third ballot is held and the election takes place by a relative majority of the members. In the event of a tie, the election is won on the basis of age.
