Article L733-3 of the French Consumer Code

The total duration of the measures mentioned in article L. 733-1 may not exceed seven years.
Measures may, however, exceed this period when they concern the repayment of loans taken out for the purchase of a property constituting the debtor’s principal residence, the sale of which they enable the debtor to avoid, or when they enable the debtor to repay all of his debts while avoiding the sale of the property constituting his principal residence.

La durée totale des mesures mentionnées à l’article L. 733-1 ne peut excéder sept années.
Les mesures peuvent cependant excéder cette durée lorsqu’elles concernent le remboursement de prêts contractés pour l’achat d’un bien immobilier constituant la résidence principale du débiteur dont elles permettent d’éviter la cession ou lorsqu’elles permettent au débiteur de rembourser la totalité de ses dettes tout en évitant la cession du bien immobilier constituant sa résidence principale.
