When a professional considers that data concerning the patient’s state of health entered in the shared medical record should not be brought to the patient’s attention unaccompanied, he or she may make this data temporarily inaccessible to the holder of the record until it is delivered to the patient by a healthcare professional during a consultation to announce the fact.
Within two weeks of the data being made inaccessible, and in the absence of an announcement consultation, the patient is informed by any means, including electronic means, of an update to their shared medical record, inviting them to consult a healthcare professional, in particular their GP, to find out about it. If the announcement consultation has not taken place one month after the data was added to the patient’s shared medical record, it will automatically become accessible.
