The Director General of the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons is appointed for a renewable term of three years.
Decisions and measures relating to the powers devolved to the Office by the legislative provisions of this Book are taken under his responsibility.
As part of the functions more specifically devolved to the Office by Article L. 121-9, the General Manager is in particular empowered to:
1° Certifying the family situation and civil status of refugees, beneficiaries of subsidiary protection and stateless persons, as they result from past acts or events that took place before obtaining status and, where applicable, subsequent events that have modified them;
2° Certifying the legality and compliance of past acts with the laws of the country in which they took place;
3° Bringing interested parties, where appropriate, to the attention of the competent authorities, in particular for matters relating to visas, residence permits, admission to educational establishments and generally for access to the social rights to which refugees, beneficiaries of subsidiary protection or stateless persons may be entitled;
4° Indicating to the authorities responsible for issuing travel documents, for each refugee or beneficiary of subsidiary protection, the list of countries to which he or she is not authorised to travel.
