Article R133-32 of the French Tourism Code

Communes may be designated as tourist communes if they :

a) Have a listed tourist office responsible for the area for which the application for designation is made;

b) Organise events during tourist periods that are compatible with the status of protected sites or natural areas, particularly in the cultural, artistic, gastronomic or sporting fields;

c) Have the capacity to accommodate a non-permanent population whose ratio to the municipal population of the municipality as defined in article R. 2151-1 of the General Local Authorities Code is greater than or equal to a percentage set in article R. 133-33.

Article R133-32

Peuvent être dénommées communes touristiques les communes qui :

a) Disposent d’un office de tourisme classé compétent sur le territoire faisant l’objet de la demande de dénomination ;

b) Organisent, en périodes touristiques, des animations compatibles avec le statut des sites ou des espaces naturels protégés, notamment dans le domaine culturel, artistique, gastronomique ou sportif ;

c) Disposent d’une capacité d’hébergement d’une population non permanente dont le rapport à la population municipale de la commune telle que définie à l’article R. 2151-1 du code général des collectivités territoriales est supérieur ou égal à un pourcentage fixé à l’article R. 133-33.
