The minimum floor area and ceiling height of tourist accommodation rooms, excluding sanitary facilities, correspond to those set for the first category by the classification table provided for in articles L. 311-6, L. 321-1, L. 324-1, L. 325-1 and D. 312-3 of the Tourism Code, whether or not the accommodation is classified within the meaning of this code.
For chambres d’hôtes and bed and breakfast accommodation :
1° The minimum floor area of rooms, excluding sanitary facilities, is :
-7 square metres for one person ;
-9 square metres for two people
-14 square metres for three people
-18 square metres for four people.
2° For more than four people, the minimum surface area is 18 square metres plus 5 square metres per person and the air volume must not be less than 11 cubic metres per person.
3° Individual exemptions to the surface area and volume requirements laid down in the previous paragraphs may be granted on the grounds of the configuration of the premises when the accommodation is located in buildings that are listed or registered as historic monuments or listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage, or when compliance with these requirements would present major technical difficulties, provided that it can be established that there will be no impact on the health and safety of the occupants. They are issued by the authority responsible for health and safety in the département.
