The request for authorisation is addressed to the public prosecutor at the court of appeal in whose jurisdiction the judicial police officer is first assigned. This request is forwarded by:
a) The director general of the national gendarmerie for regional commanders, commanders of gendarmerie formations directly attached to the central administration and heads of services and commanders of units with national jurisdiction;
b) The gendarmerie regional commander for commanders of departmental gendarmerie groupings and judicial police officers of services or units directly under his authority;
c) The group commander, the gendarmerie commander in the overseas departments and collectivities and in New Caledonia, the commander of a gendarmerie formation directly attached to the central administration or the head of department or unit commander with national jurisdiction, for all judicial police officers in units placed under their authority;
d) The head of department to which the judicial police officer reports when he or she is assigned to a national police department.
