The Institut national du sport, de l’expertise et de la performance participates in national policy for the development of physical and sporting activities, particularly in the field of elite sport, and contributes to the protection of athletes’ health and respect for sporting ethics.
To this end:
1° In conjunction with sports federations, it trains and prepares top-level sportsmen and women and implements the dual project of reconciling the quest for sporting performance with the success of sportsmen and women at school, university and in the workplace;
2° Through its expertise, it promotes the dissemination of best practice and contributes to the coherent development and pooling of resources and activities within a national network dedicated to elite sport and made up, in particular, of the other national public establishments of the Ministry of Sport and the structures grouped within the channels of access to elite sport;
3° It participates in the initial and ongoing training of those involved in the development of sport, particularly in the ongoing training of the management teams of sports federations where at least one discipline is recognised as elite;
4° It awards its own qualifications, the national diplomas that the Minister for Sport authorises it to award and the national diplomas and qualifications that the Minister for Higher Education authorises it to award, alone or jointly with other higher education establishments;
5° It takes part in scientific, medical and technological research programmes relating to physical activity and sport, produces and disseminates knowledge relating to elite sport and makes the most of its documentary resources;
6° It conducts international relations and cooperation in the field of elite sport, enters into agreements with French or foreign organisations to implement its missions and, where necessary, involves people from other French or foreign institutions in its research, teaching or expert appraisal activities.
