Article R311-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

An order of the minister responsible for immigration sets the list of documents provided for in article L. 311-1 under cover of which foreign nationals may be admitted to France.
The admission to French territory of a foreign national holding a visa may be subject to an examination of their fingerprints, for the purposes of comparison with the data recorded in the automated processing system mentioned in 1° of article L. 142-1 when the visa application is submitted.

Article R311-1

Un arrêté du ministre chargé de l’immigration fixe la liste des documents prévus à l’article L. 311-1 sous couvert desquels les étrangers peuvent être admis en France.
L’admission sur le territoire français d’un étranger porteur d’un visa peut être subordonnée à un examen de ses empreintes digitales, aux fins de comparaison avec les données enregistrées dans le traitement automatisé mentionné au 1° de l’article L. 142-1 lors de la présentation de la demande de visa.
