Article R313-18 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

When the stay is justified by the funeral of a close relative, a certificate signed by the mayor of the commune where the funeral is to take place must be produced by the foreign national when applying for a visa, if one is required, and at border control.

Lorsque le séjour est justifié par les obsèques d’un proche, une attestation signée du maire de la commune où doivent se dérouler ces obsèques est produite par l’étranger lors de sa demande de visa, si celui-ci est requis, et lors du contrôle à la frontière.
