Article R322-28 of the French Sports Code

PPE-LS means any device or means defined in article R. 322-27 intended to be worn or held by a person in order to protect them against one or more risks likely to threaten their health and safety.

The following are also considered as PPE-SL, within the meaning of this section:

1° An assembly made up of several devices or means which are joined together by the manufacturer with a view to protecting a person against one or more risks likely to be incurred simultaneously when practising a sport or leisure activity;

2° A protective device or means attached, whether or not separable, to non-protective individual equipment, worn or held by a person with a view to engaging in a sporting or leisure activity;

3° Interchangeable components of a PPE-SL which are essential to its proper functioning and used exclusively for this PPE-SL.

Any connecting system placed on the market with the PPE-SL to connect it to another, complementary, external device is considered to be an integral part of a PPE-SL, even when this connecting system is not intended to be worn or held permanently by the user during the period of exposure to the risks.

Article R322-28

On entend par EPI-SL tout dispositif ou tout moyen défini à l’article R. 322-27 destiné à être porté ou tenu par une personne en vue de la protéger contre un ou plusieurs risques susceptibles de menacer sa santé ainsi que sa sécurité.

Sont également considérés comme des EPI-SL, au sens de la présente section :

1° L’ensemble constitué par plusieurs dispositifs ou moyens associés de façon solidaire par le fabricant en vue de protéger une personne contre un ou plusieurs risques susceptibles d’être encourus simultanément lors d’une pratique sportive ou de loisirs ;

2° Un dispositif ou moyen protecteur solidaire, de façon dissociable ou non, d’un équipement individuel non protecteur, porté ou tenu par une personne en vue de déployer une activité sportive ou de loisirs ;

3° Des composants interchangeables d’un EPI-SL indispensables à son bon fonctionnement et utilisés exclusivement pour cet EPI-SL.

Est considéré comme partie intégrante d’un EPI-SL tout système de liaison mis sur le marché avec l’EPI-SL pour raccorder celui-ci à un autre dispositif extérieur, complémentaire, même lorsque ce système de liaison n’est pas destiné à être porté ou tenu en permanence par l’utilisateur pendant la durée d’exposition aux risques.
