Article R4534-4 of the French Labour Code

Once the structural work of a storey has been completed, openings in a building overlooking the void, such as bays, must be fitted with guardrails placed 90 cm from the floors and with skirting boards at least 15 cm high, unless these openings are fitted with protective devices of at least equivalent effectiveness or unless access to them has been prohibited in application of the provisions of article R. 4534-3.

Les ouvertures d’une construction donnant sur le vide, telles que les baies, sont munies, une fois le gros œuvre d’un étage terminé, de garde-corps placés à 90 cm des planchers et de plinthes d’une hauteur de 15 cm au moins, sauf si ces ouvertures comportent des dispositifs de protection d’une efficacité au moins équivalente ou si leur accès a été interdit en application des dispositions de l’article R. 4534-3.
