Article R4541-10 of the French Labour Code

The consignor of any package or object weighing 1,000 kilograms or more gross weight and intended for carriage by sea or inland waterway shall clearly and durably mark the outside of the package with its weight.
In exceptional cases where it is difficult to determine the exact weight, the weight marked may be a maximum weight established on the basis of the volume and nature of the package.
In the absence of the sender, this obligation is incumbent on the agent entrusted by the sender with the dispatch of the package.

L’expéditeur de tout colis ou objet pesant 1 000 kilogrammes ou plus de poids brut destiné à être transporté par mer ou voie navigable intérieure porte, sur le colis, l’indication de son poids marquée à l’extérieur de façon claire et durable.
Dans les cas exceptionnels où il est difficile de déterminer le poids exact, le poids marqué peut être un poids maximum établi d’après le volume et la nature du colis.
A défaut de l’expéditeur, cette obligation incombe au mandataire chargé par lui de l’expédition du colis.
