The occupational physician advises employers, employees, staff representatives and social services. Within the scope of his duties:
1° He participates in the prevention of occupational risks and the protection of workers’ health, in particular by:
a) Improving living and working conditions in the company ;
b) Adapting workstations, techniques and work patterns to physical and mental health, in particular with a view to keeping employees in employment;
c) The protection of workers against all forms of nuisance, in particular against the risk of accidents at work or exposure to dangerous chemical agents;
d) Improving the general hygiene of the establishment and hygiene in catering services;
e) Health prevention and education within the establishment in relation to professional activity;
f) New buildings or developments;
g) Modifications to equipment;
h) Introduction of or changes to the organisation of night work;
i) Support in the event of a major reorganisation of the company;
2° He advises the employer, in particular by taking part in risk assessment as part of the process of drawing up the company file and as part of his work on the working environment, carried out, in accordance with his role as defined in Article L. 4622-3, in the service of prevention and keeping workers in employment, which he carries out with the other members of the multidisciplinary team, which he leads and coordinates;
3° He decides on the individual monitoring of the state of health of workers, which has an exclusively preventive purpose and which he carries out with the health workers mentioned in the first paragraph of Article L. 4624-1, who work within the framework of the protocols mentioned in Article R. 4623-14 and under his authority;
4° It contributes to epidemiological monitoring and traceability.
In inter-company occupational health and prevention services, the multidisciplinary team and, where appropriate, the occupational social service, coordinate with the company’s occupational social service.
